target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00d6redev software developer conference<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Malm%C3%B6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Malmo, Sweden<\/a>, my wife and I had the opportunity to see some of the sights in nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Copenhagen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copenhagen Denmark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/01-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3125\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/01-copenhagen-denmark-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" straight, or the sound, or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/\u00d8resund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00d8resund<\/a>, from Malmo Sweden.\u00a0 We took the train across, which only cost about 13 US dollars.\u00a0 As we were travelling across the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/\u00d8resund_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00d8resund Bridge<\/a>, we could see a really cool wind farm to the south.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/02-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3126\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once we got to the Copenhagen airport, we took the Metro train to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kongens_Nytorv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kongens Nytorv<\/a> or The King&#8217;s New Square.\u00a0 There was a construction wall around the entire square, so we didn&#8217;t actually get to see it.\u00a0 Here is what the new square looks like on Google 3D maps right now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/kings-new-square-3d-google-map.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3148\" Metro station in the King&#8217;s New Square, you are greeted by a grand department store called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Magasin_du_Nord\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Magasin<\/a>.\u00a0 Here is a photo of the storefront.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/03-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3127\" store, you can see two pyramid shaped glass structures on street level.\u00a0 Those are big skylights opening down into the underground Metro station.\u00a0 Pretty cool.\u00a0 And if you look closely you can see several large glass prisms mounted inside the glass pyramids.\u00a0 On a sunny day I bet those prisms shine a rainbow of light down onto the Metro passengers below!<\/p>\n<p>Directly across the street from this grand department storefront stands another big beautiful and distinguished building.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Danish_Theatre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Det Kongelige Teater<\/a>, or\u00a0Royal Danish Theatre.\u00a0 This photo is actually the side of the building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/04-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3128\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/04-copenhagen-denmark-1024x605.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"280\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And this is the front.\u00a0 Quite elaborate.\u00a0 Inside it seats 1,600 and as a theatre geek I really wanted to peek inside the auditorium.\u00a0 The lobby was open and there was a small cafe inside, but everything else was closed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/05-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3129\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/05-copenhagen-denmark-803x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"604\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a bar and some really neat architecture that we noticed behind the Royal Danish Theatre.\u00a0 It&#8217;s almost an alleyway, but it&#8217;s quite beautiful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/06-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3130\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/06-copenhagen-denmark-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just around the corner from the Royal Danish Theatre is this bright and fun canal street called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nyhavn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyhavn<\/a>, or New Harbour.\u00a0 \u00a0I dare you to try and take a photo of this place that isn&#8217;t postcard or magazine quality!\u00a0 It&#8217;s practically impossible!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/07-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3131\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/07-copenhagen-denmark-1024x645.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"299\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nyhavn is a walking street, not a driving street.\u00a0 There are a ton of small shops and bars and restaurants.\u00a0 And the street is filled with these little wooden sheds selling local goods.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very much a street-fair atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/08-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3132\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many boats and small ships line the canal.\u00a0 The vintage schooners are there on permanent display and some are quite historical.\u00a0 The boat pictured below is actually an old lightship.\u00a0 Think lighthouse, but actually on the water.\u00a0 This particular lightship served Gedser Reef in southern Denmark for over 50 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/09-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3133\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/09-copenhagen-denmark-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was new to us.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Love_lock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Love locks<\/a> attached to a bridge railing.\u00a0 Apparently it&#8217;s a relatively new tradition for younger folks to show their unbreakable love by attaching a lock to a bridge and then tossing the key into the water.\u00a0 Interesting tradition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/10-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" vandalism.\u00a0 I&#8217;m torn on the subject.\u00a0 It&#8217;s kind of beautiful.\u00a0 But I can see how it could get out of hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a past the New Harbor canal and over a bridge beyond the river.\u00a0 We had nowhere to be so we joined the crowd.\u00a0 There had to be something good over there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/12-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3136\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a big warehouse building across the river that most people were going to.\u00a0 Out front these giant seagull statues looked to be made out of thin plywood sheets.\u00a0 Pretty cool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a to completely ruin my photo!\u00a0 \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We were pleasantly surprised when we went inside the building.\u00a0 It was a large warehouse space filled with about 40 colorful and fun street food vendors selling some awesome street food!\u00a0 It was pretty amazing!\u00a0 It&#8217;s called <a href=\"http:\/\/copenhagenstreetfood.dk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copenhagen Street Food<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/15-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s sort of like an American food court at a shopping mall, but way way better!\u00a0 Way way more choices and super unique choices too!\u00a0 It&#8217;s quite literally a food truck party!<\/p>\n<p>My wife and I couldn&#8217;t decide between an ostrich burger or a pulled duck burger.\u00a0 So we got one of each and then we shared!\u00a0 Both were crazy good!\u00a0 But I couldn&#8217;t get over how yummy and juicy the pulled duck was.\u00a0 There was no sauce or anything.\u00a0 I think it was just pulled and then simmered in some sort of light oil.\u00a0 Or maybe grease.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t care.\u00a0 It was delicious.\u00a0 I wonder what Thanksgiving turkey would taste like if you pulled it and then simmered it in oil or grease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/16-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" rel=\"noopener\">Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center<\/a>.\u00a0 It was inexpensive and we had the time, so we paid admission and checked it out.\u00a0 There were quite a lot of displays that used multimedia technology.\u00a0 Videos, audio, lasers, projectors, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/18-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3142\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the art exhibitions was a virtual reality exhibit.\u00a0 Each wooden room ran a different visual and audible virtual reality loop that you could interact with.\u00a0 It was pretty interesting to interact with art in that manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the sun was setting, at about 4pm, the\u00a0Nyhavn canal started to become lit up for the evening street party.\u00a0 During our leisurely walk back through the street-fair we bought some souvenirs and also some hot chocolate.\u00a0 It was too early for us to eat dinner.\u00a0 Plus we had just eaten lunch at the food trucks not much earlier.\u00a0 But there are lots of restaurants and pubs to choose from on\u00a0Nyhavn street.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/20-copenhagen-denmark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3144\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leucht.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/20-copenhagen-denmark-1024x559.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"259\" 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One evening while we were there, we noticed all the TV&#8217;s at the pub we were eating at were showing a big World Cup qualifying game between Denmark and Ireland.\u00a0 And that game was being played right there in Copenhagen!\u00a0 We had no idea.\u00a0 If I had known, I would have looked into tickets to attend the game.\u00a0 Even though neither myself nor my wife are into soccer (football), it would have been a pretty cool thing to witness first hand right there in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow I&#8217;ll publish a blog post
