Overheard in the car on the way to school this morning:
Karsten (4 yrs): Look! Airplanes!
Daddy (30-something): Good eye! Ooh, look, there’s two of them.
Karsten: They’re flying in two-mation!
Daddy: Well, it’s called formation even when there’s only two planes.
Elijah (6 yrs): No, it’s really called two-mation.
Daddy: Okay.

Update: Oops. The media tricked me again. This was the last GPS launch of Delta II, not the last launch of Delta II. There are still apparently a handful of more Delta II launches planned. Sorry for propagating my own confusion.
This morning a little after 6:30am, the very last Delta II rocket blasted off from Florida’s Space Coast carrying a GPS satellite into a successful orbit. According to local news reports, the newest GPS satellites are wider and heavier and will be launched from larger Atlas V or Delta IV rockets. Delta II rockets have been launching on the Space Coast for just over 20 years, so this morning’s event was truly the end of an era. Here’s a photo of this morning’s launch from the Florida Today website (click it for full size image):
I was outside exercising this morning during the launch and caught some low quality photos using my phone (click them for full size images):
Announcing auditions for Evita at the Cocoa Village Playhouse!
No experience necessary!
There is nothing to be afraid of! They need all ages and all body types! Not everybody has to be a great singer and not everybody has to be a great dancer! If I can do it, so can you! Try it just this once and I promise you won’t regret it! 🙂
From wikipedia: “Evita is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. It focuses on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentinian president Juan Perón. The story follows Evita’s early life, acting career, rise to power, charity work, feminist involvement and eventual death.”

Evita is a terrific musical. And in case you have been living in a cave, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice are the geniuses who collaborated on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and also on Jesus Christ Superstar. In addition to those collaborations Andrew Lloyd Webber created the music for Cats, Starlight Express, and Phantom of the Opera while Tim Rice created the lyrics for Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Aida!
These guys simply cannot create a bad musical! So if you don’t want to audition for Evita, at least put the performance dates on your calendar for September 25th through the middle of October and make sure you call the playhouse box office between now and then and reserve yourself some tickets! You know these are going to sell like hotcakes, though, so call today! 321-636-5050 (www.cocoavillageplayhouse.com)

A couple months ago I was sitting in a restaurant eating lunch when I overheard an odd confession at an adjacent table. A young high school looking girl said the following to her male friend: “My parents leave the TV on all night long for the dog.”

Wow. At first I thought this was just plain funny. But then it occurred to me that these people were wasting quite a lot of electricity by leaving the TV on all night long. They must really really love their dog!
